For
outdoor photographers, the name of the game is to "Be There When The
Light Is Right". And like it or not, next to a tripod and good
boots, a photographers best friend is the automobile. When traveling, I drive a
full-size 4X4 pickup truck with a pop-up camper. I have found this to be the most convenient way to travel. This vehicle is small enough to allow me to
explore back country roads and numerous 4WD roads, while at the same time provide a smooth comfortable ride on the open highway. I can carry enough food, water and fuel for extended trips into remote areas.
Propane gives me the comforts of home, it provides heat, hot water and
keeps my food cool and fresh in the refrigerator. I can also carry a
minni-library which allows me to write and do
research for projects at night or during inclement weather. Although the gas mileage is nothing to brag about, the cost of driving the truck and camping is about the same as driving an economy car and staying in a hotel. The
biggest advantage to driving a truck and camping is, I can "Be There
When The Light Is Right".
